Welcome to RPGNext.com, a website devoted to RPG Programming in the ILE (Integrated Languages Environment). Since the advent of RPGIV and especially the ILE, RPG programming has vaulted beyond ordinary procedural languages and is an exceptional business programming language. Today, developers are using RPG programming to develop web pages, manipulate XML, utilize sockets, read and write ASCII text files, interface with C and Java, and access the machine in ways RPGIII programmers could never hope to achieve. In other words, to paraphrase GM, "this ain't your daddy's RPG!"
Most of the site content highlights my development approach, which I have labeled xRPG. I would like to make it clear my methods are simply the collaboration of the tips and tricks I have garnered from books, e-mail lists, trial and error, and other websites like this one. This approach is highly modularized and if adopted will assist even the smallest production shop or software house in the development and maintenance of their software.
Download the xRPG Core Library today! This free set of tools and procedures intended to demonstrate the power of the xRPG approach. If you are new to ILE development, the core library will be an excellent way to jumpstart your RPG programming and development methods and get you moving down the modularization path.
Join the mailing list! We now have a mailing list courtesy of Midrange.com. This list will be used to broadcast announcements such as updates and releases for the xRPG Core Library and provides a place for the user base to discuss anything related to the RPGNext website, the xRPG procedures, or my articles. To join the list, please visit RPGNext@Midrange.com.
